Several of the presentations (available <a href=\"http:\/\/www-2.iies.su.se\/Nobel2012\/page_nobel_slides_java.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) deal with the impact of institutions on economic growth and development. The contributions by <a href=\"http:\/\/www-2.iies.su.se\/Nobel2012\/Presentations\/Acemoglu.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Daron Acemoglu<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www-2.iies.su.se\/Nobel2012\/Presentations\/Shleifer.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Andrei Shleifer<\/a> in particular do a great job in taking stock\u00a0of what we know about the role institutions play in society and\u00a0the economy. And the discussion is useful in understanding the methodological challenges in demonstrating the importance of institutions as well.
